Christians in Hillary’s Crosshairs

They face oblivion under her administration.

Underpinning Hillary Clinton’s political philosophy is a coercive secularism that eliminates conservative Christians from public life.

Should she win, she will not only force Christians to pay for contraceptives but also abortions. She will treat their schools and churches as the equivalent of Bob Jones University. She will court-martial chaplains and soldiers who don’t submit to her LGBT agenda.

In effect, a governmental boycott will fall on all Christian institutions that do not conform to Hillary’s secularist fiats. Churches that don’t marry homosexuals will suffer the kind of governmental ostracizing the Boy Scouts faced until they knuckled under to political correctness.

In Obama’s “fundamentally transformed” America, traditional Judeo-Christian morality is defined as “un-American.” The counterculture has become the culture. Flag-burners have become patriots. Defenders of cop-killers “reform” police departments. Heretics run churches. And government becomes God.

Last week, Hillary, in a moment of Orwellian gall, urged Mormons in Utah to vote for her because she is deeply committed to “religious minorities.” Tell that to the Mormon supporters of Proposition 8 in California. For merely opposing gay marriage, they were called “un-American” by Hillary’s supporters. Actor Tom Hanks hurled that epithet at them.

“The truth is a lot of Mormons gave a lot of money to the church to make Prop-8 happen. There are a lot of people who feel that is un-American, and I am one of them,” he said to the press. “I do not like to see any discrimination codified on any piece of paper, any of the 50 states in America, but here’s what happens now.”

In her pitch to Mormons, Hillary said that the protection of religious minorities formed a “cornerstone” of State Department policy on her watch. That would come as a surprise to the beleaguered Christians whom she browbeat for opposing LGBT rights as a “Western phenomenon.” The actual cornerstone of her State Department policy was to promote secularist morality at the expense of religious minorities. She told her diplomats that the imposition of the LGBT agenda on foreign countries constituted a “priority” of American foreign policy. She instructed them to meddle in the “laws” of other countries.

During her husband’s presidency, Dick Morris advised that they “triangulate” their Republican opponents by supporting religious freedom laws. Out of that hoodwinking came the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. But Hillary these days wouldn’t touch that bill with a ten-foot pole. She has supported the prosecution of Christian bakers and photographers.

Chai Feldblum, an EEOC commissioner under Obama, has said that “belief liberty” should suffer in any conflict with gay activists: “Just as we do not tolerate private racial beliefs that adversely affect African-Americans in the commercial arena, even if such beliefs are based on religious views, we should similarly not tolerate private beliefs about sexual orientation and gender identity that adversely affect LGBT people.” Hillary agrees. Before Planned Parenthood and various LGBT groups, she has promised to advance the causes of abortion and marriage at the expense of the religious. Like Feldblum, Hillary sees the inevitable collision of secularist morality and religious freedom as a “zero sum game” in which Christians should lose.

When Sandra Fluke condemned Georgetown University for not financing her contraceptives, Hillary didn’t stand up for “religious minorities.” She ripped into them. She cast marginalized Christians as oppressors in a “war on women.”

To the extent that Hillary supports religious freedom, it is directed towards Islam, which is engaged in a war on women. In a grimly comic irony of the race, Hillary, the feminist, has become the defender of misogynist Islam while the “misogynist” — Donald Trump — stands against it. Hillary is busy pandering to Muslims who support stoning Sandra Fluke to death, while Trump proposes vetting proponents of Sharia law.

In the 1970s, Hillary cut her teeth as a feminist by describing marriage as a “dependency relationship” on a continuum with “slavery and the Indian reservation system.” She finishes her career as a defender of paternalistic Islam. She won’t stand for Trump’s questioning of a Muslim husband and she now thinks it wonderful that women drape themselves from head to toe. “In Rio, Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad became the first American Muslim athlete to compete while wearing a hijab,” she gushed on Twitter.

That the party of feminism has become the party of Islam puts a strain on the adage “politics makes strange bedfellows.” Out of this marriage of political convenience will one day come a savage divorce. Sharia law will swallow up the liberals who defended it. But in the meantime, Hillary, in her power-seeking cynicism, is happy to prop up the marriage, as long as it reduces their common enemy, Christianity, to an orphan.
